As of January 1st, 2018, each employer will have to send the original medical certificate, which the employee has handed in, to Luxembourg Social Security Department (Centre Commun de la Sécurité Sociale – CCSS), if the employee has forgotten to send it to the Luxembourg Healthcare Department (Caisse Nationale de Santé – CNS), and if the CCSS requests the certificate.
Copies of medical certificates will no longer be accepted and refunds by the Mutuality of Employeurs (Mutualité des Employeurs – MDE) will only be done after being in possession of an original medical certificate.
Therefore, our advice is that employer ask their employees to hand in an original medical certificate, instead of a copy:
- employees consulting a doctor using the Luxembourg 3-part medical certificates, the pink slip has to be, as usual, sent directly to the CNS, the yellow slip has to be given directly to the employer, and the green slip should be kept for his personal needs
- all other employees should ask their doctor to deliver at least 2 original medical certificates
